Beyoncé’s Black Is King dropped with a string of disappointing stats on its debut weekend, but did Beyoncé really loose? The film attracted less than 4% of  Disney viewership, ranking at #10 on its debut weekend. These are flop stats for Beyoncé. Let’s not waste our time and energy trying to justify that. Rather, let’s watch the match from an aerial view. Maybe some adversaries were KO’d. Maybe stats are just a checkbox she barely missed.

Does the $100 million Disney deal count?

There has been a rumour that Beyoncé signed a $100 million three-project deal with Disney, Black Is King being the first. The highest-paid actor in 2019 was Dwayne Johnson (The Rock from WWE). He amassed a staggering $89.4 million from multiple projects, making around $20 million per deal. That is precisely one-fifth of what Beyoncé got for a single deal. If money matters to you then Beyoncé has committed major pre-eminence considering that film making is just a side gig for her.

Her Stance of Afrocentric matters?

Beyoncé has long been fighting for diversity not only in entertainment but also in political and socio-economic spheres. Like the emancipation of Rodney Reed, women empowerment, and human rights for African Americans. The biggest statement conveyed by Black is King is that of self-pride. That everyone has the right to be comfortable in their own skin and identity. If you have watched Black Is King and felt empowered, more open-minded, or motivated afterward then Beyoncé won.

Her credibility as an artist

Beyoncé's creativity as an artist has steadily escalated since 2013. Her material got more matured, refined, and more expressive. This was of course something not everyone appreciated. With Black Is King she continues to expand on her artistry. Venturing into treacherous waters with bold and daring statements. This is what an expert had to say about Beyoncé’s Black Is King:

"Beyoncé’s attention to detail is prevalent throughout the film’s nearly 90-minute duration, with each scene matching the emotional tone of the song that accompanies it"- Okla Jones of Consequence of Sound

As an artist, Beyoncé has surely earned her stripes.

Please note that the notion of ‘Flop Stats’ may change depending on whether the viewership in African broadcasting channels is good.
